Cyril Ramaphosa has pledged to respect any ruling by South Africa’s Constitutional Court regarding efforts to revive impeachment proceedings linked to the controversial cash theft scandal at his private farm, but insisted he will not step down from office.
The case stems from allegations surrounding the handling of a large cash theft at Mr. Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm, an issue that has continued to generate political and legal scrutiny since it first emerged.
Speaking on the matter, the South African president maintained that he remains committed to constitutional processes and would comply with the court’s judgment should lawmakers be directed to resume impeachment proceedings.
In 2022, Members of Parliament from the ruling African National Congress voted to halt the impeachment process, a move that drew criticism from opposition parties and anti-corruption campaigners who accused the government of shielding the president from accountability.
The renewed legal pressure comes at a politically sensitive time for Mr. Ramaphosa, whose administration continues to face growing public concerns over governance, economic challenges, and institutional credibility ahead of future electoral contests.
