The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it is set to communicate its official position on the proposed amendments to Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
In a statement dated August 28, 2026, and signed by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah (MP), Chairman of the NPP Policy Co-ordination Committee, the party said it was formally consulted by the Constitution Review Committee (CRC) and made submissions as part of the national constitutional review process.
According to the statement, following the release of the Government’s Position Paper on the CRC’s recommendations, the NPP’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Policy Committee conducted a detailed review of both documents.
The committee has subsequently prepared the NPP’s own position paper, which will be submitted to NPP Presidential Candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the National Executive Committee (NEC) for consideration and adoption.
The party says it will announce its official position to the Ghanaian public after the paper has been considered and adopted.
The NPP further reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, inclusive and orderly constitutional review process, saying the process must protect Ghana’s democracy, strengthen constitutional institutions and promote political stability and development.
