Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, has strongly denied authoring a purported memorandum alleging that she received and later returned GH¢70,000 in connection with the vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees.
Hon. Appiagyei described the document circulating in the media as fake and fabricated, insisting that she neither wrote, authorised nor circulated it.
She also categorically denied receiving GH¢70,000 or any other amount from any individual in connection with the vetting of ministerial or Supreme Court nominees or in relation to her duties as a member of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
“I did not write, authorise, or circulate this document. It is fake and should be disregarded by all,” she stated.
According to the Deputy Minority Leader, since she did not receive any such payment, she could not have returned it as alleged in the purported memorandum.
Hon. Appiagyei further reaffirmed that she has consistently discharged her responsibilities on the Appointments Committee with integrity, including during the recent vetting exercise.
Fake Document Originated From Her Office
The Deputy Minority Leader explained that she was attending the funeral of a close friend when the alleged fake document was first brought to her attention.
She said that because the document appeared to have originated from her office, she initially believed that the fake stamp she had authorised to be placed on it would be sufficient to expose it as fraudulent.
However, she said the matter later gained significant prominence in the media, prompting her to issue a stronger clarification.
Legal Action Being Considered
Hon. Appiagyei has indicated that she is seeking legal advice on the appropriate steps to take once the source of the fabricated document is established.
She has also reserved her rights to pursue legal action against anyone found responsible for producing the document or knowingly circulating it.
The Deputy Minority Leader believes the development is part of an attempt by unidentified individuals to create division within the NPP Caucus.
“It is clear to me that some faceless individuals are up to some mischief to sow seeds of discord in our Caucus but this will fail,” she said.
Despite the development, Hon. Appiagyei assured the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party and Ghanaians that the Minority Caucus remains united.
She also reaffirmed the Caucus’s commitment to rallying behind the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“Though we walk through these difficult times, I wish to assure the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party and all Ghanaians that the Caucus stand united to rally behind our flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for victory 2028.”
