Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has called on African governments and lawmakers to invest heavily in Artificial Intelligence (AI), stressing that the continent cannot afford to be left behind in the global technological revolution.
Speaking at the ECOWAS Parliament, the Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament urged member states to move conversations on AI beyond conference rooms and translate them into concrete national policies, educational reforms, and budgetary commitments.

According to him, Africa must strengthen the enforcement of community judgments across member states, build the capacities of Members of Parliament, and integrate AI studies into universities across the continent.
“Africa cannot be left behind in the era of the Artificial Intelligence revolution,” he stated during his contribution on the floor of the ECOWAS Parliament.
He further called for increased investment in skills development and technological innovation to prepare the younger generation for emerging global opportunities.
