Minority Leader Osahene Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has secured the release on bail of NPP Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe and Sunyani East Communications Officer Abubakar Yakubu after their arrest by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service over separate allegations.
Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has facilitated the release on bail of NPP Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, and Sunyani East Communications Officer Abubakar Yakubu following their detention by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
The two were released after hours of interrogation, with the Effutu MP standing surety and meeting bail conditions set by investigators.
Abronye DC was reportedly arrested over alleged threats directed at a judge handling a case at the Adenta Circuit Court, while Baba Armando is under investigation for alleged false publication against some government officials.
Addressing the media at the CID Headquarters, Afenyo-Markin confirmed his intervention, stating that he personally ensured the release of both party officials.
He called on the police to exercise restraint and professionalism, particularly in handling politically sensitive matters, emphasizing the need for tolerance in law enforcement.
The Minority Leader also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and CID leadership for their responsiveness in resolving the situation.
Meanwhile, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye alleged that the arrests form part of a broader attempt to divert attention from governance challenges facing the government.
According to him, growing public dissatisfaction over unmet commitments, including legislative and economic concerns, has led to what he described as politically motivated actions.
He warned that continued pressure on opposition members could heighten political tensions if not handled carefully.
