The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for increased financial support for the National House of Chiefs to strengthen its role in regulating and supporting Ghana’s chieftaincy institution.
He made the appeal when the Parliamentary Select Committee on Chieftaincy, Culture and Religious Affairs, chaired by Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah, paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace to formally introduce the Committee and its mandate in the 8th Parliament.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stressed the importance of truth and integrity in leadership, especially amid rising chieftaincy disputes, noting that peace and development depend on honesty among traditional rulers.
He welcomed the establishment of the Committee, describing it as a timely intervention in addressing challenges within chieftaincy and religious affairs, and conveyed greetings to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

Chairman Dr Asamoah, who is also the MP for Offinso North, praised the Asantehene for his role in resolving long-standing disputes and promoting peace for development.
The committee also visited the Manhyia Palace Museum to learn more about the history, culture, and traditions of the Asante Kingdom.
