IGP urges vigilance and digital innovation as Police Credit Union Office Opens in Accra

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has called on the Ghana Police Co-Operative Credit Union to uphold the highest standards of integrity and protect members’ funds as he commissioned its new office complex at the Police Hospital in Accra.

Speaking during the Commissioning of Police Hospital Co-Operative Credit Union Office Complex on Tuesday, December 16, the IGP described members’ trust as “sacred” and stressed the importance of safeguarding it while also planning for the future of the institution.

He emphasized that the rapidly evolving financial sector, driven by digital banking, mobile money, data analytics, and cyber security challenges, presents both opportunities and responsibilities.

He encouraged the credit union to invest in secure digital platforms, enhance online and mobile access for members, and strengthen cyber security systems.

Highlighting officer welfare as a top priority, the IGP noted that the credit union plays a critical role in supporting the well-being of police personnel.

“Since assuming office, one of my core priorities has been officer welfare. This includes accommodation, health care, training, provision of critical logistics, and the financial well-being of our personnel,” he said, pledging continued support from the police administration to encourage responsible participation in the credit union’s schemes.

The IGP also acknowledged the contributions of the board of directors for their vision, the staff for their dedication, contractors and consultants for timely project delivery, the Police Hospital administration for collaboration, and regulatory bodies for guidance.

The new office complex is expected to strengthen the cooperative’s operations, improve member services, and reinforce public confidence in the institution, reflecting both the modern needs of the financial sector and the welfare-focused mission of the Ghana Police Service.
