The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates across Ghana.

The Council announced that the results have been dispatched to participating schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates can also check their results online through WAEC’s official website.

620,243 Candidates Sat the 2026 BECE

According to WAEC, a total of 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools registered for the 2026 BECE. The candidates comprised 304,415 males and 315,828 females.

The examination was conducted at 2,237 examination centres nationwide. WAEC disclosed that 3,601 candidates were absent during the examination.

The Council also provided examination accommodations for candidates with special educational needs, including:

• 136 candidates with visual impairment
• 282 candidates with hearing assessment needs
• 510 candidates requiring other forms of test accommodation

WAEC Cancels and Withholds Results Over Examination Malpractice

Following investigations into examination irregularities, WAEC’s 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved sanctions against candidates found to have breached examination regulations.

The sanctions include:

• 496 candidates had their subject results cancelled.
• 105 candidates had their entire results cancelled.
• 119 candidates had their subject results withheld.
• 48 candidates had their entire results withheld.

Additionally, the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld pending further investigations.

WAEC says the investigations are expected to be completed by August 31, 2026, after which the affected results will either be released or cancelled based on the findings.

How to Check Withheld or Cancelled BECE Results

Candidates whose results have been withheld or cancelled have been advised to visit WAEC’s irregularities portal to view the reasons for the Council’s decision and receive guidance on the next steps.

Heads of schools and proprietors can also use their official results listing login credentials to verify the status of affected candidates.

WAEC Warns Against Result Upgrade Scams

The Council has cautioned candidates, parents and guardians to ignore fraudsters who claim they can upgrade examination results for a fee.

According to WAEC, its examination results are highly secured and can be authenticated, warning the public not to engage with individuals making such false promises.

WAEC Commends Stakeholders

WAEC expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and all stakeholders for their contributions toward the successful conduct of the 2026 BECE and the timely release of the results.
