By Our Democracy News GH

ACCRA, Ghana — Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, is set to pursue four road infrastructure questions, track a proposed constitutional amendment and intensify parliamentary oversight of public spending when Parliament resumes sitting on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

The MP disclosed that four questions submitted to the Minister for Roads and Highways have been listed on Parliament’s agenda, covering the Bepong–Ntomem Road, Atibie Paragliding Site Road, Nketepa Road and Akwasiho–Twenedurase–Obo Road.

The questions seek updates on construction progress, timelines for contractors to resume work, proposed rehabilitation and upgrading works, and details of the contract awarded for the Nketepa Road project.

According to Mr Opoku, the roads are critical to local communities, businesses, tourism and economic development across the Mpraeso Constituency.

MP seeks answers on four road projects

Mr Opoku intends to seek clarification on the current state of construction on the Bepong–Ntomem Road and the Akwasiho–Twenedurase–Obo Road, including when contractors are expected to return to site.

He will also seek details of plans and timelines for rehabilitating and upgrading the Atibie Paragliding Site Road, which serves a tourism area in the Kwahu enclave.

For the Nketepa Road, the MP is seeking information on the contract awarded, its scope, terms and expected completion date.

The questions are expected to provide an opportunity for the government to update Parliament on the status of the projects and the steps being taken to address outstanding infrastructure needs in the constituency.

Constitutional amendment bill remains before committee

Mr Opoku also reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana (Amendment) Bill, 2025, a Private Member’s Bill he is championing.

He disclosed that the proposed legislation remains before a parliamentary committee and pledged to continue monitoring its progress through the legislative process.

No further details on the bill’s proposed changes or the timeline for its consideration were provided in the update.

Public spending and accountability under scrutiny

In his capacity as Vice Chairman of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, Mr Opoku said he would continue contributing to the examination of Auditor-General’s reports, scrutiny of public expenditure and efforts to strengthen financial accountability in public institutions.

He also highlighted his responsibilities on the Information and Communications Committee, where his areas of focus include access to information, data protection, digital infrastructure and governance.

Additionally, the 2025 Audit Committee Statement of the Kwahu South Municipal Assembly is listed on Parliament’s agenda, placing municipal financial accountability among the issues expected to receive attention.

MP pledges continued representation and oversight

Mr Opoku said he remains focused on his core parliamentary responsibilities of representation, legislation and oversight, with the interests of the people of Mpraeso at the centre of his work.

He assured constituents that he would continue providing updates as parliamentary business progresses.

Parliament’s resumption on November 3 is expected to provide an opportunity for further consideration of the road infrastructure questions, the constitutional amendment bill and public financial accountability matters.
