Former spokesperson for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s campaign team, Kwasi Kwarteng, has dismissed reports that the former Assin Central Member of Parliament has resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), insisting that he is currently in China on business and has not submitted any resignation letter.

In a social media post addressing the reports, Mr Kwarteng urged the public to disregard the claims, describing them as inconsistent with the information available to him.

“Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong is currently in China conducting business. He’s not submitted any letter of resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to anyone. Please disregard any such report,” he wrote.

The statement comes amid speculation on social media about Mr Agyapong’s political future and his relationship with the NPP following claims that he had decided to leave the party.

The reports have triggered mixed reactions among social media users, with some expressing concern about the implications of a possible departure for the party, while others have commented on his previous attempts to become the NPP’s presidential candidate.

One social media user suggested that the former presidential hopeful should have waited for another opportunity to contest the party’s flagbearer position.

“Wow Ohene, we understand your pain, but at least you should have waited for one last attempt,” the user wrote.

Other commenters used the elephant, the NPP’s symbol, to express concern about the party’s situation.

“One leg of the elephant is broken,” one user commented, while another wrote: “What the elephant is being crippled. Oh no!”

Some users also speculated about a possible political alliance between Mr Agyapong and Alan Kyerematen, popularly known as Alan Cash, a former NPP flagbearer hopeful who left the party and established the Movement for Change.

“He might be teaming up with Alan Ewuradi,” another commenter suggested.

However, these reactions remain social media speculation and do not establish any political decision by Mr Agyapong.

Mr Kwarteng’s statement maintains that the former Assin Central MP has not formally communicated a decision to resign from the NPP. His comments seek to counter the circulating reports as discussions about Mr Agyapong’s political future continue.
