Accra, August 24, 2026 — Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, says he has taken legal steps to respond to allegations of extortion levelled against him.
Addressing Parliament during the emergency sitting, Mr. Afenyo-Markin said he had chosen to take the “high moral ground” by submitting himself to the processes of the law.
According to him, writs have been filed in two separate cases at the courts in response to the allegations.
He cited Suit No. JT/1029/2026, titled Osahene Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Samuel Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited, and another case involving Eric Adjei and Peace FM.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin said he was confident that the courts would eventually make the appropriate determination on the matters.
Challenges accusers to report him
The Minority Leader also challenged those who made the allegations to formally report the matter to the appropriate investigative authorities, including the Police Service or the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
He said he was prepared to cooperate fully with any investigation if a formal complaint was lodged.
“I shall submit myself to every investigation, so that eventually my name is cleared.”
Mr. Afenyo-Markin maintained that he was ready to subject himself to the legal process and expressed confidence that the truth would emerge through the courts and any properly constituted investigation.
Our Democracy News will continue to follow developments in the matter as the legal processes unfold.
