Speaker Bagbin Urges MPs to Maintain Decorum at Emergency Sitting

Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has urged Members of Parliament to maintain the highest standards of conduct as the House begins its emergency sitting.

In his closing remarks, Speaker Bagbin expressed appreciation to MPs for responding to his call and returning to the Chamber at relatively short notice.

He, however, directed Members to limit the business of the emergency sitting strictly to the matters for which President John Dramani Mahama requested the recall of Parliament.

According to the Speaker, the Parliamentary Secretariat was not prepared to arrange other parliamentary business because such matters are normally handled during regular sittings and not during a recall sitting.

He urged MPs to demonstrate “the highest standards of conduct, firmness of conviction without needless acrimony, disagreement without disrespect, and decorum without obstruction.”

Speaker Bagbin also welcomed members of the Parliamentary Press Corps, officials of the Parliamentary Service, invited guests and citizens following proceedings from Ghana and beyond.

He formally declared the emergency sitting of Parliament welcomed and thanked Members for responding to the recall.
