The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended Mr. Daniel Nortey from all media appearances and public engagements on behalf of the party, with immediate effect and until further notice, following remarks he made during a televised discussion on allegations of sexual abuse involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
In a statement issued by the party’s Communication Directorate, the NDC expressed serious concern over Mr. Nortey’s comments, condemning remarks it said trivialised the allegations or undermined the seriousness of sexual abuse, particularly where the safety and welfare of children are concerned.
The Directorate said it had taken note of Mr. Nortey’s unreserved apology but stressed that public commentary on allegations of sexual abuse must be guided by responsibility, sensitivity and respect for due process.
It further cautioned against treating such matters lightly or reducing them to partisan political debate, emphasising that allegations of sexual abuse must be handled with the seriousness they deserve and in accordance with the law.
The NDC reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on sexual abuse and all forms of sexual exploitation, reaffirming its commitment to protecting women and children and promoting accountability.
The suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice, according to the statement.
