Minority Caucus Meets IMF to Discuss Ghana’s Economic Outlook

The Minority Caucus in the Parliament of Ghana has held a high-level meeting with officials from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to discuss recent economic developments and share the opposition’s perspectives on Ghana’s financial situation.The meeting, requested by Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, took place on March 16, 2026, at Parliament House in Accra. The engagement gave members of the Minority Caucus the opportunity to provide feedback to the IMF on the country’s current economic conditions and governance issues affecting the economy.The IMF delegation was led by Resident Representative Adrian Alter and included Mr. Razafimahefa Ivohasina Fizara, Coordinator of AFRITAC West 2, as well as Mr. Osa Ahinkwah, an economist at the IMF Country Office.Several key members of the Minority Caucus participated in the discussions, including Second Deputy Minority Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib; Ranking Member on Finance Mohammed Amin Adam; Ranking Member on Economy and Development Kojo Oppong Nkrumah; Chairman of the Budget Committee Kweku Agyeman Kwarteng; Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee Abena Osei-Asare; and Deputy Ranking Member on Energy Collins Adomako-Mensah.Also present was Dr. Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party.According to the statement signed by Afenyo-Markin, the discussions were “constructive and mutually beneficial,” reflecting the shared interest of stakeholders in ensuring sound economic governance and stability in Ghana.
