Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, Deputy Communications Minister Sukparu Involved in Bolgatanga–Tumu Road Accident

The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and the Deputy Minister for Communications and Digital Technology, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, were involved in a road traffic accident on the Bolgatanga–Tumu Road while travelling for official duties in northern Ghana.

Incident and Purpose of Trip

According to official statements, the ministers were part of a convoy heading to the Upper West Region to participate in activities marking the 40th anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education when the crash occurred.

The accident reportedly happened around mid-morning between Banu and Kunchokor on the Tumu-Navrongo stretch of the highway. Preliminary accounts suggest that a motorist crossed the convoy, causing reduced visibility from dust and leading the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Condition of the Ministers and Convoy

A statement from the Office of the Minister for Education confirmed that both ministers and members of their teams are in stable condition and receiving medical attention. Authorities added that no life-threatening injuries were recorded among the convoy occupants.

Reports indicate that the ministers were later airlifted to Wa for further medical evaluation before arrangements were made for their onward transfer to Accra.

One of the drivers reportedly sustained injuries, including a fractured hand, but is said to be responding to treatment.

Official Response

The Education Ministry expressed appreciation to emergency responders, healthcare workers, and members of the public who provided assistance at the accident scene. Authorities say further updates will be issued as more details become available.
