Unemployed Environmental Health Officers and Assistants have taken to the streets, marching from Independence Square to Flagstaff House, to demand immediate employment, postings, and recognition after years of neglect by the government.

The protesters, who are trained and licensed by the Allied Health Professions Council, say they’ve been sidelined despite growing sanitation challenges nationwide.

They cited public health risks associated with inadequate environmental health services, emphasizing that their skills are crucial in preventing disease outbreaks and promoting public health.

“We are not just demanding jobs; we are demanding recognition of our role in safeguarding public health,” said one of the protesters. “Ghana needs effective sanitation enforcement, and we are the ones to deliver it.”
