Northern Regional Minister urges inmates to uphold values at Tamale Prison Christmas celebration

The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, has urged inmates at the Tamale Central and Female Prisons to uphold values of perseverance, discipline, and redemption, stressing the importance of respecting authority and focusing on self-improvement.

The call came during a Christmas celebration organized for 300 inmates spearheaded by Executive Chef Faila, a Guinness World Record Cook-a-thon contender.

The initiative aimed to foster hope, encourage rehabilitation, and remind inmates that they are not forgotten.

The event was also graced by the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Prof. Alidu Seidu. Upon arrival, the Minister was received with a guard of honour before proceeding to the prison premises.

Addressing the gathering, Chef Faila encouraged inmates to embrace positive change, drawing inspiration from the overwhelming public support she received during her 10-day cook-a-thon.

She emphasized society’s shared responsibility in supporting the rehabilitation of inmates.

DDP Obed Kofi Acquaye, Deputy Director of Prisons, expressed gratitude to the Minister and MP for honouring the occasion and highlighted challenges confronting the facility.

These include the need for expanded workshops, improved sanitation with a septic emptier, and a consistent water supply, particularly during the dry season

Inmates also appealed for support in vocational training, post-release employment opportunities, and the provision of a water tanker.
