The National Election Security Taskforce has met with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Election Committee as preparations intensify toward the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The meeting was convened to receive formal notification of the upcoming internal elections and to gather critical information, including the election timetable, designated venues, and the scope of related activities, to facilitate comprehensive security planning.
Addressing the gathering, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, underscored the importance of early engagement with political parties, describing such interactions as vital to ensuring effective coordination and readiness ahead of major political events.
He assured the Committee that the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with other security agencies, would work closely with the Electoral Commission and the NPP to implement appropriate security measures to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process.
The IGP further reaffirmed the commitment of the National Election Security Taskforce to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to maintain law and order, as well as safeguard public safety before, during, and after the presidential primaries.
