The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced plans to revoke the licenses of 50 large-scale mining companies found in breach of regulatory requirements.

According to the Ministry, the decision follows a thorough review of large-scale mining operations, conducted by a special committee set up specifically to assess compliance within the sector.

The committee, operating under the directive of the Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), has identified the first batch of companies to be affected.

Many of the breaches involve companies holding leases without the requisite permits from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) or the Water Resources Commission (WRC).

“This action is part of the government’s multi-pronged strategy to address illegalities and ensure responsible mining practices,” the Ministry stated.

The review and subsequent enforcement measures signal the government’s commitment to tightening oversight in the mining sector, which has faced increasing scrutiny over environmental and operational compliance.
