Forestry Commission arrests 11 Chinese nationals and 10 Ghanaians in galamsey crackdown

The Ghana Forestry Commission in its latest crackdown on illegal mining practices, has apprehended eleven Chinese Nationals and 10 Ghanaians who were caught engaging in illegal mining in the Savannah Region.

Latest reports indicate that the culprits were captured by officials of the authority that were found in the Yakombo Forest Reserve – a part of the nation’s greenery which has been labelled off limits to any form of mining activities.

The intelligence-led operation counts as part of many other operations being organized across several parts of the nation to fight illegal mining and its harsh effects on water bodies.

The culprits have been taken into police custody and all equipment which include one tipper truck, one excavator, a number of pick up trucks marked and ready for due processing.
