Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has called on tax officials across the country to intensify their efforts in domestic revenue mobilisation, emphasising the need for a more proactive and assertive approach to tax collection.

Addressing staff of the Legon Tax Service Centre during a working engagement, Dr. Forson noted that Ghana’s revenue strategy must shift from passive methods to more active enforcement and taxpayer engagement.

“Revenue must not depend on waiting for taxpayers to walk into our offices, we must go out, engage, enforce compliance, and collect what is due to the state,” he said.

Dr. Forson stressed that tax officers must take full ownership of their targets and work deliberately to expand the tax net, which he described as crucial to sustaining national development and funding essential public services.

“Ghana needs the revenue, and the work you do is critical to funding public services and driving national development,” he reiterated.

He expressed confidence in the capacity of the Ghana Revenue Service and its officers to improve collection performance, adding that with dedication and discipline, the country can mobilise the resources needed to support economic growth and secure a more resilient future.

The engagement forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to boost domestic revenue as Ghana seeks to strengthen its fiscal position.
