Assin Fosu health director threatens to close Akoti Health centre over security threats

The Assin Fosu Municipal Health Director, Mr. Benjamin Amoakoh, has threatened to shut down the Akoti Health Centre following what he described as life-threatening attacks and intimidation against health workers by some residents of the Assin Wurakese community.

According to Mr. Amoakoh, an unidentified man recently stormed the health facility wielding a knife and a gun, threatening the lives of health workers on duty.

This incident occurred shortly after the Central North Police Command arrested more than 100 youths in a swoop at Assin Wurakese in connection with an earlier attack on the Akoti Health Centre last week.

He explained that the perpetrator accused the health workers of making a video available to the police, which allegedly led to the arrest of the youths involved in the attack.

Mr. Amoakoh said the safety of health personnel remains his top priority and warned that the only option left to protect his staff may be to close down the facility if the threats and intimidation persist.

Meanwhile, the Central North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, has confirmed that over 100 people from the Assin Wurakese community have been arrested in a swoop to assist with investigations into the attack on the health centre.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as the case develops.
