The Majority Leader, James Agalga, has commended the Speaker of Parliament, his deputies and Members of Parliament for their dedication to parliamentary duties during the recent recess.
Delivering his remarks in the House, Mr Agalga praised the Speaker and the Deputy Speakers for what he described as their dedication and patriotic service to Ghana.
He also acknowledged the contributions of parliamentary leadership and fellow MPs, stressing that although Parliament was on recess, lawmakers had remained engaged in constituency activities, committee work and international engagements.
He observed that MPs had continued representing their constituents and the country through various parliamentary and diplomatic assignments.
Commends peaceful conduct of constituency elections
The Majority Leader also highlighted the peaceful conduct of the October constituency elections, describing the exercise as a demonstration of Ghana’s democratic maturity and commitment to resolving political differences through the ballot rather than conflict.
He said the engagements undertaken by MPs during the recess, including constituency interactions, stakeholder consultations and exposure to international developments, had better prepared them for the business ahead.
Congratulates newly appointed ministers
Mr Agalga further congratulated colleagues who received appointments to the Executive during the parliamentary recess.
He specifically mentioned Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, who was appointed Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, wishing her success in her new position.
He also commended MPs who continued working through their respective committees to ensure that parliamentary business did not stall during the break.
Highlights committee activities during recess
Providing an account of committee work, the Majority Leader disclosed that the Committee on Environment, Science and Technology organised a workshop to examine annual statements submitted by audit committees of several institutions for the 2024 financial year.
The institutions included:
- Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
- Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
- Ghana Atomic Energy Commission.
He added that the committee also met with the sector minister to discuss a framework agreement on climate change cooperation between the Government of Ghana and the Government of the Republic of Korea.
