Hon. Jerry Ahmed has paid a moving tribute to the late President, John Evans Atta Mills, describing him as a leader whose life was defined by humility, integrity and accountability.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Ahmed commended former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for supporting the refurbishment and rehabilitation of Asomdwee Park through the Coastal Development Authority.

He said Prof. Mills’ life taught Ghanaians that there is no need for vindictiveness and that no one has absolute control over life.

“Irrespective of who you are or where you are coming from, when it is your time, you will be called by the Lord, our Maker.”

Hon. Ahmed described Prof. Mills as being synonymous with accountability, stressing that the late President remained committed to his promises even after assuming office.

“Anytime he had the opportunity of telling the Ghanaian people that ‘I was going to do A,’ he did A. And when he even got to power, he didn’t change.”

He, however, expressed concern that current governance appears to have departed from some of the values and principles demonstrated by Prof. Mills.

Hon. Jerry Ahmed urged political leaders and Ghanaians not to limit the remembrance of Prof. Mills to speeches and tributes but to emulate the positive values he represented.

“We should not just be saying things and remembering Professor Mills and then go back to sleep. We must go back and live and emulate his lifestyle.”

He concluded by praying for the eternal rest of the late President and calling on leaders to uphold the principles of integrity, accountability and humility.
