Accra, Ghana – The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso Constituency, Hon. Dr. Stephen Amoah, has strongly rejected a report ranking him among Ghana’s “low-performing” MPs, describing the assessment as misleading and based on misinformation.

Speaking on the matter, Dr. Amoah said his response was not intended to protect his personal image but to ensure that the public is accurately informed about his work.

“A society without good information cannot make good decisions. I want the people of Nhyiaeso and Ghanaians to judge me based on my actual work, not on rumours,” he said.

The Nhyiaeso MP questioned the methodology used by Mussa Dankwa and his team, arguing that there is a “missing link” in how Members of Parliament are assessed. According to him, many constituents judge MPs based on issues that fall outside their constitutional responsibilities.

“Mussa Dankwa is doing a great job, but I think there’s a missing link. Is it what the constituents expect, or what the constitutional responsibilities of an MP are? You cannot sit there and judge me based on cedi depreciation and conclude that I’m a low-performing MP. They have to educate the constituents on the actual role of an MP,” Dr. Amoah stated.

He maintained that MPs should be evaluated based on their legislative, oversight and representation roles, rather than on national economic indicators or government policies that are beyond the direct control of Parliament.

Dr. Amoah also cited his parliamentary record as evidence of his performance, noting that several of his statements and contributions on the floor of Parliament have been considered significant enough to be referred to committees for further action.

“Go to the Hansard. Check the record. My work is there for all to see,” he said.

Despite the criticism, the Nhyiaeso legislator said he remains committed to serving his constituents and will continue to focus on effective representation and development for the people of Nhyiaeso.
