*ACCRA, Greater Accra Region* — Walewale MP Hon. Dr. Kabiru says the government’s 24-hour economy program is “suffocating for funds” and failing to deliver, with contractors unpaid and the newly created authority struggling financially.
Speaking in an interview, Dr. Kabiru argued the law establishing the authority was “needless” from the start. Now in operation, he said the body lacks funding and has become a “veget” on the economy.
“If you ask them about their 24-hour economy which is a flagship program, the secretary is even struggling to get funds. The authority that we established by them… is suffocating for funds,” he stated.
The MP linked the funding crisis to broader spending problems, noting that contractors across government projects are not being paid. He also pointed to the introduction of the first fiscal measure in 2024, suggesting it set the stage for current economic pressures on Ghanaians.
Dr. Kabiru said the situation reflects wider hardship, with spending constraints affecting both government operations and ordinary people’s lives
