Parliamentary Select Committee Pays Courtesy Call on Asantehene

The Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Chieftaincy, Culture and Religious Affairs, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, has led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace.

Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah said it was an honour for the Committee in the Ninth Parliament to officially introduce itself to the Asantehene and also congratulate him on the celebration of his many years on the Golden Stool.

According to him, although the Committee was first established in the Eighth Parliament, members considered it necessary to formally visit the Asantehene because of his immense contribution to chieftaincy, peace and national development in Ghana.

He noted that the Asantehene has played a critical role in resolving chieftaincy disputes across the country, including the Bawku conflict, and has consistently served as a unifying figure during political tensions in Ghana.

Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah further stated that the Asantehene’s influence extends beyond Ghana, citing his engagements and speeches in the United Kingdom as evidence of his global statesmanship.

The Committee Chairman explained that due to the important role the Asantehene continues to play in national affairs, the Committee deemed it appropriate to seek his advice, guidance and blessings before fully commencing its work in the Ninth Parliament.
