Gov’t to Establish New College of Education in Ezinlibo; Jomoro MP Welcomes Move

Government plans to establish a new College of Education at Ezinlibo in the Western Region have been welcomed by Jomoro MP Dorcas Toffey, who says the move will boost teacher training and create opportunities for the youth.Government has announced plans to establish a new College of Education at Ezinlibo in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region as part of efforts to expand teacher training and improve education outcomes.The announcement was made by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu during the inauguration of the governing council of John Bosco College of Education on March 31.According to the Minister, the initiative is aimed at increasing access to teacher education, particularly in underserved areas, and addressing the shortage of trained teachers in the region.The proposed institution, to be sited at Ezinlibo, is expected to improve academic standards and strengthen the education sector within the Jomoro enclave.Reacting to the announcement, the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Toffey, described the project as a major boost for the constituency. She noted that beyond improving education, the college would also create employment and opportunities for young people.The Minister further revealed that consultations are ongoing with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to facilitate the project, with construction expected to begin in 2027, subject to the availability of funds.In a related development, Mr. Iddrisu also disclosed plans by government to revive inter-schools and colleges sports competitions nationwide to help identify and nurture talent among students.
