Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Hon Dorcas Affo-Toffey Inspect Tema Port and Jamestown Fishing Harbour to Assess Key Infrastructure Projects

Ghana’s Transport Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, together with Deputy Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has conducted a working visit to the Tema Port and the Jamestown Fishing Harbour to inspect ongoing projects and assess operations aimed at improving Ghana’s transport and fisheries infrastructure.During the visit to Tema Port, the ministers inspected dredging works currently underway at Terminal 14. The dredging project is designed to facilitate the smooth movement of large vessels transporting clinker, a key raw material used in cement production.According to Deputy Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey, the improved channel depth is expected to significantly reduce vessel waiting times at the port, a challenge that has contributed to rising production costs for companies that rely on clinker imports. The ministerial team later moved to the Jamestown Fishing Harbour, where they observed progress on projects intended to improve the working conditions and livelihoods of fisherfolk. Among the developments are the provision of a reliable water supply at the fish market and the installation of a modern ice-making facility to help preserve fish after landing.Officials also indicated that cold storage facilities at the harbour are nearing completion, a development expected to expand storage capacity for fish and fish products while reducing post-harvest losses. The working visit forms part of efforts by the Ministry of Transport, led by Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to monitor ongoing infrastructure projects and strengthen operational efficiency across Ghana’s key maritime and fisheries facilities.
