Tamale South MP Commends President’s Evidence-Based SONA, Says Recovery Has Begun

The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as a clear, evidence-based State of the Nation Address (SONA), noting that the speech marked a shift from rhetoric to action.

Reacting after the address, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu said what makes him particularly happy about President Mahama’s leadership is the focus on practical action rather than political talk. According to him, the SONA stood out because it was grounded in evidence and clarity, unlike past addresses where it was difficult to pinpoint specific achievements or direction.

He posed a critical question: has there been any recovery? Answering his own question, the Tamale South MP said there are clear signs of improvement, pointing to declining inflation and better debt management. He stressed that prosperity and renewed hope can only be achieved when government spending is targeted at key growth areas of the economy.

On economic management, Hon. Iddrisu argued that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has performed far better than the previous administration led by Nana Akufo-Addo. He cautioned Ghanaians not to forget the extent of damage done to the economy under the previous government, noting that recovery will take time and patience.

Touching on the cocoa sector, the MP said he has observed the politicisation of the industry over the years but believes President Mahama has now “broken the ice” and will take concrete steps to fix the challenges. He expressed confidence that, although the country is still healing, Ghana is on a gradual path to recovery under the current administration.
