The Member of Parliament for Kintampo North, Joseph Kwame Kumah, has responded to the Minority’s demand for a review of the recently announced cocoa producer price.
Speaking on the matter, the MP stated that it is better to have “a father who tells you the truth” than “a lying father,” insisting that government’s decision was based on the current economic realities.
According to him, President John Dramani Mahama is fully aware of the country’s financial situation and understands that there is presently no money to sustain higher cocoa prices.
He explained that the reduction in the cocoa producer price was not meant to punish farmers but reflects the financial constraints facing the nation. He therefore urged cocoa farming families to exercise patience and bear with the government as efforts are made to stabilize the economy.
The comments come amid growing concerns from cocoa farmers and the Minority in Parliament, who argue that the new price falls far short of earlier expectations.
