Minority Demands Release of Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, Condemns NIB Over Alleged Abuse of Power

Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh Slams Govt Over what he describes as ‘Persistent Safety Lapses’ on Ghana’s Waterways

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has strongly criticized the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) over what it describes as an abuse of power in the ongoing investigation involving Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah.

According to the Minority, a communiqué dated February 3, 2026, from the Secretary to the President, Mr. Callistus Mahama, directed the NIB to investigate an allegation reportedly made by Mr. Ofosu Nkansah on Sompa Radio 106.5. The allegation suggested that an individual had paid money to secure a scholarship to study abroad.

Mr. Ofosu Nkansah was subsequently invited by the NIB on February 5, where he voluntarily appeared in the company of his lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, MP for Manhyia South. After assisting with investigations, he was allowed to leave without being charged.

However, the Minority says he was invited again on February 9 while in Kumasi attending to his seriously ill father. Though he requested to report on February 11 due to the circumstances, the NIB allegedly insisted on an earlier appearance.

Upon reporting, he was reportedly escorted by heavily armed officers to his residence for a search and later taken back to the NIB office in Nima.

The Minority Caucus has expressed concern over what it describes as excessive force and intimidation, arguing that Mr. Ofosu Nkansah had been cooperative throughout the investigation. The Caucus further claims his whereabouts are currently unknown and has raised concerns about access to legal counsel.

Describing the situation as “unacceptable,” the Minority has called for his immediate release and urged the NIB to conduct investigations in a civil and lawful manner.

The Caucus also urged government to focus on pressing national issues such as delayed payments to cocoa farmers, unemployment, and the rising cost of living.
