The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Hon. Kingsley Agyemang, has expressed anger and disappointment following a protest by some constituents over unpaid debts, describing the situation as both troubling and unfortunate.
Speaking to the media, the MP revealed that the protest — which saw participants wearing red masks — personally affected him, noting that one of the demonstrators owes him GH¢250.
“It really triggered a bit of anger with me,” Hon. Agyemang said, adding that the development is “very unfortunate,” especially at a time when farmers are deeply engaged in the major farming season.
The MP highlighted the broader implications of the protest, stressing that farmers in the constituency are facing severe economic pressures due to the high cost of agricultural inputs, including pesticides and fertilizers.
“For me, the impact is very huge,” he emphasized, pointing to the strain these challenges are placing on farmers’ livelihoods.
Hon. Agyemang appealed to the government to intervene urgently, explaining that the actions of the protesters reflect a wider problem affecting many others who may not have the opportunity or platform to express their frustrations.
According to him, the protest should be seen as a warning signal of deeper challenges within the agricultural sector, where farmers continue to struggle with high production costs and low returns for their produce.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over the state of agriculture, with calls intensifying for targeted support measures to protect farmers and stabilize rural economies.
