Majority Leader Slams Minority’s Call for GoldBod Probe, Calls It ‘Propaganda

The Majority Leader, Hon Mahama Ayariga, has criticized the Minority’s demand for a parliamentary investigation into the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) over alleged $214 million losses, describing it as “propaganda” aimed at undermining the government’s economic achievements.

Speaking in Parliament, Ayariga questioned the Minority’s motives, pointing out that GoldBod has generated significant revenue and foreign exchange for the country.

He emphasized that the Board’s operations are transparent and subject to audit, with financial reports to be presented to Parliament in March 2026.

Ayariga argued that the Minority’s actions are politically motivated, seeking to distract from the government’s successes in stabilizing the economy and boosting gold reserves. He urged Parliament to reject the Minority’s motion, labeling it a waste of time.

The controversy centers on losses reported by the IMF under the Gold-for-Reserves program, which GoldBod officials deny, citing operational costs and accounting practices. The debate reflects ongoing political tensions over Ghana’s economic management and gold sector governance.
