Eastern Regional Police Command deploys Over 1,000 personnel for NPP presidential primaries

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into an attack on a Jacobu District police patrol team by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum in the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, when officers on routine patrol retrieved a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy.

The officers instructed the minor to direct the owner of the firearm to report to the police station with the required documentation.

According to police, as the patrol team was returning, they were confronted by a crowd of about 100 people who blocked the road.

Some members of the group were allegedly armed with cutlasses and firearms. The mob reportedly assaulted the officers and seized a service rifle.

In the ensuing confrontation, police shot the individual who had taken the weapon, while another suspect sustained injuries. The seized service rifle was later recovered by the police.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has condemned the attack and cautioned the public against assaults on law enforcement officers. It stressed that all perpetrators involved in the incident will be pursued and made to face the full rigours of the law.
