Trades Minister announces establishment of garment factories to boost jobs and industrial growth

The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has revealed the government’s plans to support the private sector in establishing three large garment factories, a move aimed at accelerating industrial growth and creating employment opportunities.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Wednesday, January 21, Minister Ofosu-Adjare said the planned factories are expected to provide jobs for approximately 27,000 people over the long term.

She emphasized the garment industry’s strong potential for job creation, noting that it employs large numbers of people and requires minimal training before workers can be engaged.

“This initiative will offer employment opportunities to many Ghanaians while strengthening our industrial base. Supporting the private sector remains central to the government’s economic growth strategy,” she stated.

The Minister added, “A garment factory employs a lot of people, and the beauty is that you don’t need to train for three or five months before starting work. This is good news for 2026, which already looks promising with these initiatives.”
