“This is not the NPP I knew” – Frimpong-Boateng fires at party leadership

Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng has launched a stinging critique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), insisting the party has lost the core values that once defined it.

In an interview with an Accra-based television station, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng stated that the current NPP no longer represents the party he once knew and served.

“The present NPP is not NPP. It is fake. From what I see now, this is not the NPP I used to know,” he said.

Asked whether he still considers himself a member of the party, the former minister distanced himself from what he described as the present structure of the NPP.

“Not the fake one. The real one is there. It is a virtual thing. The members are in the background,” he remarked.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng further raised concerns about the party’s internal democratic processes, singling out the conduct of its most recent flagbearer election.

He alleged that the process was characterised by manipulation, bribery and intimidation of delegates.

“Look at how they elected their last flagbearer, twisting people’s arms, bribing delegates and intimidating others to get a flagbearer. This is the beginning of corruption. This should not be allowed in any serious institution or political party,” he stressed.

He argued that these internal challenges contributed significantly to the NPP’s poor showing in the most recent general elections, adding that the party failed to adequately confront the factors that led to its defeat.
