No third term for Presidency - Constitution Review Committee confirms

The Constitution Review Committee (CRC) has confirmed that it found no basis to propose a third term for Presidents, putting an end to ongoing speculation about potential changes to Ghana’s presidential term limits.

Presenting the final report to President John Mahama, Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh, Chairman, CRC, emphasized that consultations with eminent persons and public feedback revealed little demand for a third term.

He added that the President himself does not support the idea.

“We looked and looked, but we couldn’t find a place for a third term. The President himself does not like it, and there wasn’t much demand for it at all,” Prof. Prempeh stated.

The committee’s clarification comes amid heightened public interest and debate over term limits in Ghana, reaffirming that the current constitutional framework restricting the presidency to two terms will remain unchanged.
