The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into a viral video involving an American woman identified as Arianna Naomi Mackey, who claims she was abducted, robbed, and assaulted by men purporting to be police officers while visiting Ghana.

According to a statement issued on December 9, 2025, Ms. Mackey alleged in the video that she was taken by five masked men she believed were police officers on snap-check duty in Accra, during which she was robbed.

Preliminary police findings reveal that the video was recorded in a hotel in Accra where Mackey and two friends were lodging. Investigators confirmed that the group checked out on December 5, 2025, with airport checks indicating she departed Ghana later that same day.

Police contacted Mackey to assist with investigations, but she was unable to provide names, badge numbers, or the registration details of the supposed officers involved. She also declined to share details of the friend who she claims witnessed the incident, stating that the friend “does not want to be involved.”

The statement further indicated that Mackey has since deleted the video and blocked investigators after attempts to reach her via WhatsApp calls and messages proved unsuccessful.

The CID says diplomatic channels are now being activated to secure her cooperation.

The Police Service emphasized that it takes the allegations seriously and is committed to establishing the facts behind the claims.
